March 29, 2005: Procrastination

I need to write. I need to be working on my new manuscript. I need to keep those creative juices flowing. But, instead, I clean the house (sort of) and balance my checkbook and read other people's novels. In short, I'm procrastinating. Why is that?

I'm trying the music cure. Frequently, if I put 18th century music on my CD player, I find myself more inclined to write. A friend's children sent me a lovely CD of 18th century music for Christmas, Enchanting Harmonist: a Soiree with the Lynleys of Bath. I live in hope that it will do the trick.

And I'm not only procrastinating about my writing. I received a packet from the New Jersey Romance Writers asking for, among other things, a 5x7 publicity photo. This is in preparation for the workshop I'll be giving in October. Now, I've been thinking about having a portrait done for my web site, but I've been... you know... procrastinating. Actually, I was hoping I'd be thinner when this request came. Today I finally bit the bullet and scheduled a portrait. I did pick a photographer who seems to do a lot of nice things with lighting. Although he did say he would not do "digital plastic surgery," I'm hoping he can light away one of my chins.

I've done so much procrastinating that my friends have begun to notice. This past weekend, my friend Linda, formerly the CEO of the company I used to work for, appointed herself CEO of my writing career. She then appointed my critique partner and my first reader board as members and directed me to produce a business plan by Friday. I think I'm going to have to start writing.

On the positive side, my second book, Just Say Yes is up at Amazon, cover and all. Go. Look. Preorder.

Here's another problem with procrastination. I don't have much to report this month. Keep your fingers crossed that I'm productive as all get out in April and will be telling you about how many pages I've written of my great new manuscript at the end of the month, as well as reminding you that Once Upon a Sofa will be out in May. Have I mentioned that?
