: That should be the end of it.
: But now this romance readers’ site, a site that, unless I am grievously wrong, has never evinced any interest in the integrity of the press, has decided to pursue this issue with, pardon my pun, evangelical zeal.
: WHY?
The way in which romance novels and romance writers are portrayed in the press has come up time and time again at AAR. This is not a new topic for us. Integrity of the press has come up in many, many times as well.
It would be nice if this site was a big money maker, but Amazon commissions and advertising cover the site fees and the astronomical mailing costs. Laurie puts in as many (or probably more) hours than she would if she were working full time for actual money. I easily spend at least thirty hours a week working for AAR - for nothing. The site is staffed by reviewers and editors who do their jobs because they love romance novels. I frequently get inquiries from potential reviewers who would like to join the AAR staff, but their interest often vanishes when they find out they will be working for nothing.
I am not saying this to toot AAR's horn or to sound like a martyr. I do what I do because I absolutely love to do it. But the idea that anyone on this site is in it for the money is pretty laughable.
