Over the past few months at AAR there's been a huge amount of posts that bemoaned the state of the romance genre and the need for change. Time and again posters have complained that it's past time to move on, that they have "outgrown" the romances they were reading. They have criticized writers, publishers, editors, and the buying public which seems satisfied with the status quo. Often the tone of the posts have been sneering, ranting, incredulous, superior and flaming. Those statements in this public forum have been welcomed and applauded.
Now comes an author who has moved on. Though she has chosen to continue writing romance, she has chosen to explore different territory. Her comments were far less derogatory of the genre, the industry and its readers than the majority of posts printed on the various boards here in recent times.
The response here to her right to grow and move on and express herself has been intolerant and inconsistent with what some posters demand for themselves.
I am neither an author nor a follower of RLH, but a believer in according the same rights to others we expect for ourselves.
