I know Robin mostly through the email group of the inspirational romance chapter she founded but have also met her personally. I know her well enough to say she is an honest, and caring person and a committed Christian. If she says her words were taken out of context and her meaning twisted in the article, then you can believe that is exactly what happened. Why? Because if not, Robin would be the first to tell you that she meant everything in the article. She stands behind her convictions so you can be certain if she really said those things in the way they were reported, she would stand behind it.
Robin has always supported aspiring writers and the romance genre in general. One time on the email loop someone made a disparaging remark about secular romances and Robin jumped in to the discussion in defense of the writers who choose to write secular (many of the group's members do). She made it clear that some of us may have different opinions on what is "ok" for a Christian to write and none should judge each other. She reminded us that a Christian writer is a Christian who writes. Period.
Another time I felt a little offended because someone started a discussion of a religious/political issue with the assumption that all good Christians would agree with her stand. I didn't and said so. Robin posted a message agreeing with me, that we all have freedom of conscience and many sincere Christians look at the issue differently.
Robin has given of herself tirelessly to promote the romance genre and all of us writers, inspirational or secular, owe her a vote of thanks and, more importantly, our trust. Why should anyone believe a journalist over one of our own who has given so much to our industry?
