About Me |
Like everyone else here, I love books. I started reading
at age 3 or 4, I think, and I was constantly getting in trouble for
reading in bed when I was supposed to be asleep. My worst punishment
ever was gettting grounded from books for a week! Naturally I
majored in English at Vanderbilt University. I now work - where
else? - in a library!
I discovered romances a couple of years ago when I read Saving
Grace by Julie Garwood (still my favorite) in one night. I
was instantly hooked! They're the grown-up version of fairy tales,
with strong women and dashing men, and it's so nice to celebrate
the happy ending. I love humorous romances, and my favorite setting
is Scottish medieval. My favorite authors include Julie Garwood,
Teresa Medeiros, Connie Brockway, Victoria Alexander, Julia Quinn,
Deborah Simmons, and Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and many, many others.
I also enjoy classics, literary fiction, and nonfiction of many
types. My three favorite books outside romance are The Great
Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Jones by Henry
Fielding, and Mama Day by Gloria Naylor.
I love discussing romances with other readers at AAR. Becoming
a reviewer here is a dream come true for me, and I hope I can
sniff out some good books for everyone!

Personal Reading Tastes |
What I'm a sucker for in a book: Unusual conflicts, best
friends falling in love, bluestocking heroines and nerd heroes,
arranged marriages, witty banter, humor of any sort, humorous
intentional anachronisms, historical detail, fairy tales especially
Beauty and the Beast stories, captive romances, pirates,
strong supporting characters, and characters with full and interesting lives.
What I don't particularly care for in a book: Workplace
romances, romantic suspense, I-hate-you-let's-go-to-bed plots,
inaccurate research, really egregious historical errors, and the Big
Misunderstanding.
What drives me absolutely nuts in a book: Sexist heroes,
stupid heroines, the permanent erection, too much cutesiness, and
characters who fight until the last page.
