AAR Mini-Polls: Top Tens
Top Ten Inspirational Romances
May 9, 2007
Inspirational romances are said to be one of the hottest sub-genres around today. Though that may be the case - and while the other two mini-polls conducted at the same time we polled for inspirational romances were very busy, we didn't receive enough votes in this category to provide a top ten list. That said, however, we were able to create a list of your Top Five Inspirational Romances.
|Redeeming Love (1991/97)
|A Rush of Wings (2003)
|The Still of the Night (2003)
|The Scarlet Thread (1996)
|Love Comes Softly (1979)
Francine Rivers had two titles in your top five. The first - and the book in the number one spot - is Redeeming Love, which Lee read when it was first published by Bantam Fanfare in 1991. Ms. Rivers subsequently rewrote it as an inspirational book for Multnomah, omitting some of the sexier scenes.
The book was also voted by you as the best of Ms. Rivers' releases in our Favorite Books by Favorite Authors poll. Interestingly, the second of her books to make it into your top five - The Scarlet Thread - was not voted among the author's best in that faves poll.
Kristin Heitzmann also had two titles in the top five - A Rush of Wings and The Still of the Night - both of which earned DIK status at AAR. The final top five vote winner, Janette Oke's Love Comes Softly, earned a B+ grade.
Surprising in a lack of votes was Dee Henderson, who has earned several good grades at AAR for her inspirational romantic suspense titles. When we polled for Favorite Books by Favorite Authors, her list comprised seven titles while Rivers' only had three. Janette Oke's list comprised the full twelve slots alloted per author.
If you’re tired of vampires and Regency England, maybe an inspirational title is just the ticket for a change of pace, particularly if matters of faith are important to you.
We invite you to consider these questions and post about these poll results:
- What do you make of the fact that two of the hottest sub-genres in romance today are inspirational romances and erotic romances?
- Have you read any inspirational titles? If so, what attracted you to the genre?
- Have you heard that Avon Books has started an inspirational line? Do you think you might be tempted to try one of their titles?
- If you haven't read any inspirational titles, why not, and do you think you might change your mind?
