A Passion For Him is the sequel to Passion for the
Game. I haven’t read the first book in this series, but
after reading this installment, I'll be sure to pick
it up.
Amelia Benbridge is courting a longtime friend, the Earl of Ware, and one of London’s most eligible bachelors. She knows that it is only a matter
of time before they get married. However, while she
finds Ware handsome, charming and kind - everything she
could want in a potential husband - she cannot truly
return his affections. Her heart still belongs to her
first true love, Colin Mitchell, who died years earlier.
While attending a masquerade ball, she meets the eyes
of a man in a white mask. He stares at her from across
the ballroom, and she brazenly returns his gaze. He
later introduces himself as Count Reynaldo Montoya.
They share an intimate dance, and a passionate kiss, a
kiss that evokes the feelings she once had for Colin.
What she does not know is that this mysterious
stranger is Colin, who is now a spy. Colin never forgot Amelia, and never loved another woman as much as he loves her. But because he felt he could not
provide for her in the manner he truly wanted, he reluctantly let her believe he was dead. It was always his intention to return to her, and he does so only to find that she is soon to be married to another. He keeps his identity
a secret, and they begin an affair that can only be
described as intensely sexual.
I like this book on many different levels. Amelia is
outspoken, and some might think perhaps a bit too
forward for her time, but I liked that about her. The
sex scenes were hot, and while Ms. Day employs a
certain "c-word" a little too frequently for my usual
taste, it fit these two characters.
The fact that Colin kept his mask on whenever they
interacted only added to the sensuality.
My interested only waned when the spy sub-plot took center stage. It needlessly distracted from Amelia and Colin's love affair and I flipped the pages to get back to scenes involving the couple. This issue aside, I had a great time reading A Passion for Him and am avidly searching for Sylvia Day’s backlist.
