Watched pilot for Prime Suspect. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I'd like to think the blatant sexism isn't as prevalent in 2011 as it was back in the early 80s when shows like Cagney & Lacey and Dempsey & Makepeace were on or even 1991 when the British series debuted with Helen Mirren. So that aspect felt really off to me in this remake, particularly since it was so heavy handed.
But I will watch a few more episodes to see if it will gel for me. |

The past two PanAm shows were great even though it got panned from a TV critic. I know what I like so who cares what the critic thinks. Just hope it doesn't get cancelled.
We're getting to know the cast of characters fairly well. They all are coming into their own.
The stewardesses are showing that women were growing and stretching in the 60s by getting college educations and glamorous jobs that took them to new heights. Even the captain and first officer are better developed by what we are learning about them. The FO wanted to be an astronaut so he's dealing with that let-down. The captain is young and they are trying to explain why he's such a young captain. He basically put in a captain bid and got it. No one with his seniority # put in a bid and those with higher seniority #s didn't question his bid so he became captain.
All in all a good show in spite of the critic. |

I watched the first 4 episodes of A Gifted Man. It's fun to see Jennifer Ehle in a contemporary show (even if she is a ghost). It's one of those shows which you have to turn your brain off a bit to enjoy as lots of things are totally illogical. But since it's on demand I'll continue to watch.
I think Pan Am and Person of Interest are my favorite new shows, but I am also enjoying Terra Nova. |

I like Pan Am... don't love it, but like it.
One stand-out performance to me was Collette, and her struggles with memories of the Nazi invasion of France. When she sings 'Deutschland Uber Alles', tears came to my eyes, and I felt her (the character's) pain. It made a valid point about international politics. I thought she was amazing! _________________ Visit my blog for the latest!

I agree, that was very well done.
It's like Pan Am wants to be serious but not too serious, which is a shame. _________________ My Shelfari Shelf: http://www.shelfari.com/o1518275077 |

We're watching the same shows I like Pan Am and PoI best too, though I am watching Terra Nova and liking it OK.
But what I am really looking forward to is Once Upon A Time tonight.

So I just read where Pan Am's ratings are not good. So possible cancellation there.
On the bright side Once Upon A Time opened strong.
Person of Interest is a solid performer.
Terra Nova is just hanging on but Fox is patient and may give it time to build an audience.
I am really bummed about Pan Am. It's a good show.

| Hopefully ABC will try moving Pan Am to another night before they give up on it. As I said the other day, it's one of my favorites. |

I am really disliking the Christina Ricci character on Pan Am. It's not just how unnatural she is at perky - the other three girls do a much better job of blending polite and friendly and looking like natural human beings.
But what really did it for me was her getting the Captain in trouble and all the cheating she did to get ahead. It's not that I haven't empathized with characters who cut corners before - it's that she seemed to feel like the rules the rest of us schlubs have to live by simply don't apply to her.
On a lot of the Pan Am threads the complaints about her began the first epi. I held out till now but this week she sort of threw me over the edge.

Not a new show, but I just wanted to sneak in here since I don't want to start a new thread, and gush about Flashpoint. It was too strong of a feeling for me to contain, and I had no one else to share my love. Why is no one that I know watching it? Great, great show. That's all.
Thanks for letting me get that out. |

| I don't see Flashpoint on the CBS schedule anymore. Are they still airing new episodes in Canada? |

Ion had started showing most of the recent episodes from season 4 on Tuesdays. I think they also show some on Saturdays. However, they are behind in showing the newest episode (s4 ep 12). CTV has started showing new episodes again (they were off for 2 weeks, I'm assuming so ion can catch up, and one of these days they'll both be showing new episodes at the same time). |

I watched Pan Am last night for the first time and really enjoyed it. I think it shows a slice of the early '60's pertaining to sex and how women and men treated each other. Too bad the ratings are low. Perhaps the critics assume we don't want to be reminded of those times.
On the other hand....loved Once Upon A Time. At first I wasn't hooked, but as the show went on I loved it. Gennifer Goodwin is the perfect Snow White. Another show I've been watching and enjoying is Revenge. A nice drama that is keeping my interest. _________________ "As you wish"

| That's too bad Pan Am didn't get renewed. While I didn't watch it weekly, I saw a few episodes, and I thought it was pretty good with the subplots of the different stewardesses. It was nice to see some historical aspects of the time period. |
