Another new film version of Dumas' classic The Three Musketeers is in the works with a cast that includes:
Logan Lerman as D'Artagnan (not sure who he is, but I know he's the new Spiderman)
Matthew MacFadyen as Athos (yum!)
Ray Stevenson (ROME) as Porthos
Luke Evans as Aramis (no idea who this guy is)
Orlando Bloom as The Duke of Buckingham
Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds) as Richelieu
Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort (again, no clue who this is)
and Milla Jovovich (UGH!!!!) as Milday de Winter 
Screenplay is by the ubiquitous Andrew Davies (Pride & Prejudice and many,many more).

| If Andrew Davies is the screenwriter, I'm in. Agree about Milla Jovavich. Not crazy about her. Do you know if it will be on the big screen or BBC, something like that? |

I believe this is a theatrical release slated for 2011.

Matthew Mcfadyen as Athos - No, no, and no.
Orlando Bloom as Buckingham - Actually, that kind of works. He doesn't have to do anything except be earnest, look pretty, and die.
Christopher Waltz - Excellent.
Mads Mikkelsen - That works too. He was the villain in Casino Royale, and played Igor Stravinsky recently. Man of many faces.
Of course, this is entirely dependent on the screenplay. And who knows what will happen there. I haven't yet seen a film version I like. But Andrew Davies - well, know never know.

Works for me! I've missed Orlando Bloom. I think he might have more acting potential than he's been given credit for--or maybe not. I guess I don't really care, I just want him back on the screen. |

I think he has quite a bit of potential too. Besides being very pretty, *g* I thought he was quite good in the movie Kingdom of Heaven |

Yes, I thought he had some good moments in it, despite the incredibly cheesy dialogue he had to spout. He's unlucky that way--the first scene between Paris and Helen in Troy was just horrible, but I don't think even Laurence Olivier could have pulled it off. And later in the movie, some of Orlando's scenes with Eric Bana (IMHO the true star of that film) were excellent, especially when Paris chickened out and literally crawled to his big brother for protection. It took guts for Orlando Bloom to take a role like that, and once again, I thought he showed real flashes of potential. I keep hoping that one day he'll break out in a film, but in the meantime, I'm always glad to see him.
Back on topic, it would be so great if they made a real Three Musketeers film instead of completely rewriting it--again. Such a great story, such excellent characters... I feel a bit like Charlie Brown with the football, but I'll go see it. So far my favorite version was the Michael York/Richard Chamberlain film. The story was at least recognizable and what a cast! |

Why does every single film have to look like a superhero flick? Yes, I know the answer but come on.

Especially if Andrew Davies wrote it. After he had success with changing a couple of very small things in his adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (Mr. Darcy swimming etc.) he thinks every classic needs to be re-written by him.
Did anyone else see his version of "A Room With A View"?
Why take the only book written by Forester with a happy ending and make it tragic instead?
I agree the two Richard Lester movies from the early 70's are the only ones actually based on the books. |

The only way I'd see it is if Milady got away with a huge fortune while the "heroes" got their butts kicked.
I hated the Musketeers; the hypocricy was annoying.
Sweet little Constance was actually a married woman cheating on her husband with "noble" D'Artagnan. (Who, IIRC also boinked Milady out of hurt pride)
Athos hanged his own wife without giving her a chance to explain her past.

This one looks almost as bad as shlocky The Musketeer done a few years ago that used kung-fu wires. 
My favorite is the rollicking 1970s duo (Reed, Chamberlain, York, Lee, Dunaway, Heston!) but I also enjoyed the 1940s edition with Gene Kelly and Lana Turner. No other version I've seen has even been halfway decent and the new looks to continue the trend.
That Room With A View "update" was as bad as that abomination rolled out as the TV miniseries WWI sequel to Anne of Green Gables. YUCK!

Dare I say it looks a bit like steampunk in parts of that trailer? I don't know if I'll see it in the theatre, but I'll watch it. I do love Orlando Bloom.
Another remake...I see they are making a remake of Gunsmoke and who is to play Matt Dillon. Brad Pitt!! Oh, my. That seems wrong.
