I don't read in bed (my approach to bed is to climb in, tuck my head down on the pillow, and go to sleep, all of which takes about 30 seconds).
My husband does read in bed. I have no idea how late It involves having the light on, but it certainly doesn't bother me.

I think I could be your hubby. I have the same issue.
I can not sleep with a TV a light or even music. My hubby likes to read in bed and boy the fights. He tried a bunch of book lights and they either did not light the page enough or fell or whatever. He bought a new one that has an LED light that I HATE. It seems to shine out of the sides and no matter what position I am in shines in my eyes and hurts. I feel like I am going blind.
I hope you find one that your hubby can get some sleep with. And when you do please let me know b/c I am so going to go and purchase one as well!
This was certainly not a topic in pre marriage class
