I enjoy Mariah Stewart's novels. Her only "not good" one (for me) was Last Breath, the final book in her most recent series. I just finished Mercy Street and thought it was pretty good. It's definitely a set-up for future books with this same couple. Mallory is a former detective, off the force now because of an on-going issue with her former partner. Charlie is the detective that has been hired to replace her. She accepts an offer to do some private detective work for a millionaire and his cousin, a priest. Charlie has been asked by the police chief to help her in the investigation. The story of two missing teenagers was not that intriguing to me, but it was interesting enough. I liked the low-level romance that was beginning between the two main characters and look forward to seeing it mature as the books go along. I've read better by her, but at the same time, enjoyed this one for what it was. There were some incidents and procedures described that didn't quite ring true for me, but not enough to disqualify the whole book.
Anyone else read it yet? Any thoughts on it? |
