I'm probably going to be a little vague here, but i'm trying to remember the title of an e-book i read some time ago (maybe 4 years) - fantasy in genre. There was some sort of lottery which selected village girls to be taken to this fortress-monestary to be paired off with the warriors kep there. The men were largely kept ignorant and isolated unless they were fighting. The H was actually ignorant of what was supposed to happen with the h and seemed actually a little scared of her. I remember that she was teaching him how to read (I think). I do know that much of the plot centered around the h convincing the H that they should overthrow the evil monks who kept them enslaved.

It's driving me crazy that i can't remember the title and i know i dont' have a copy. thanks in advance for help.

Sounds a lot like The Warrior's Gift by Bonnie Dee.
