I have been trying to recall the title of a book I read. I thought it was written by Mary Balogh, but I have not found it in any of her books. What I can recall of the story is that the heroine is a mistress, who her protector set up in a house that he visited on certain scheduled days and times during the week. Her brother acts as a servant in the house, unbeknownst to her protector. The heroine has been putting money aside to leave her protector suddenly and without his knowledge. She accomplishes this and he is very angry when he discovers that she is gone. She may be pregnant (not sure), which he doesn't know. I think that they meet up again after a few years while she is living in some coastal village. I hope that I am not getting 2 stories mixed up. Anything is possible when I consider how many decades I have been reading. I would appreciate your help. _________________ “You're never alone when you're reading a book.” - Susan Wiggs |

A Precious Jewel by Mary Balogh contains every plot point you mentioned except the brother. So, perhaps you are thinking of two books. _________________ caroly |

| Possibly Anna Campbell's Claiming the Courtesan. |

| The first part definitely sounds like Anna Cambell's Claiming the Courtesan. The second part is faintly ringing a different bell, possibly a Madeline Hunter or Eloisa James? |
