I loved how they did The Notebook, Time Traveler's Wife wasn't bad and 9 1/2 Weeks was so much better than the book. Hunger Games I actually liked the movie better than the book. Twilight - they did the best they could, it wasn't terrible but not even close to the books as far as enjoyment goes. it's hit or miss but I'm still excited! I can't help myself, hope springs eternal I guess. Embarassed

You're right in forming your own image of the characters in your mind and movies are always a disappointment that way. This is also similar to why I can't do audio books, I like to have my own idea of how the characters speak and when I listen to an actor/reader doing it they never sound as I imagine.

I'm always hopeful when a movie is made out of a book that I love. I liked The Notebook as a movie too. I liked the book as well, but it was very short novel and they brought out the love story so well of the couple when they were young. That really didn't happen as much in the book, the concentration was on the couple when they had aged. And the ending was totally different in the movie. I really didn't like it, because it was so final. The book gave hope that the couple still had time together. So, I'm really hoping the writer can reach in and grab the love story that the fans of the book connected with. I don't expect the movie to be all about sex, wouldn't want it to be, but it will have to be included in some way. Right now, I'm just anxious to know who will play Christian and Ana. I'm trying to not get my hopes up too high for that...keeping an open mind and all.

I had forgotten about the Notebook, I think that movie is great and enjoy watching it again and again. I don't mind if they make them somewhat different from the book, as long as it works and The Notebook, IMO, did. And I have to say I always enjoy Pride and Prejudice and some others. But I have grown to give it a 50/50 stop with Holleywood making books into movies.

I also don't enjoy audio books, unless I am taking a long drive with my mother than it is the best choice. I don't like the reader doing all the voices (although that might be the best way, it just can creep my out until I get way into the story).

Just thinking I wonder what FSoG sounds like on audio book?

I love that clip so much I have it saved in my You Tube favorites and go back to watch it when I need a laugh!

But the real Fifty audio book, I hear it is absolutely terrible, I've not heard one positive review of the audio version.

I think they're just speculating, who would you like to see in the roles? I have to say I'd love to see Alexander Skarsgard in it! But I have the feeling it's going to be Ian.

I think it's speculation as well. How many times have we read articles like this. I read somewhere that Christian would be played by Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill). I certainly hope that isn't true. blech!
Agree...I would love to see Eric, er..Alexander play Christian. I'm thinking that it will be Ian though. I know that EL James is a big fan.

Angelina Jolie as director? Really? Are they kidding? I would love to see Matt or Henry as Christian. Ian is really cute but he just dosen't seem liike Christian to me. He seems somewhat immature.
Can anyone recommend any of these books?

I enjoyed Strangers very much. The Story of O and The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty are hardcore S&M and were not for me, not at all erotic, IMHO. Dark Lover was good but has nothing in common with Fifty Shades other than they can both be considered romance. I really wonder at some of these recs floating around when they are not at all like FSoG. Bared to you is a Fifty knock-off and not nearly as good, IMHO. Was bored with Gabriel's Inferno but lots of folks enjoyed it. The rest I haven't tried.

Anything in particular you're looking for? Any kind of hero or heroine or theme?

For an enjoyable story I really liked Easy by Tammara Weber, some fun email exchanges in there too. Not my normal type of story but was glad I took a chance on it.

I think if you are looking for something "like" Fifty Shades, you first have to answer what was it about Fifty Shades that you want to find? Is it the BDSM, is it the type of "romance", the damaged Hero over coming his damage, the H/h working out their issues in an adult manner, the sex ( I admit, I don't need a book with sex, but if it is written well I am totally into it) nice easy read? So once you figure out what you enjoyed or want more of, then you can start finding the author that will deliver the goods.

I am with Linda my neighbor to the south, Bared to You is an alright story, but the whole time you might be saying this is so Fifty-ish, which isn't terrible, it is just the characters aren't as perfect as Ana and Christian seemed. Ana and Christian really needed each other and I never felt that with Bared to You.

So if it is the D/s relationship that interests you then you can find recomendations that include that, or if it is contempary romances I think you will find no shortages of good authors that have been writing strong H/h for a long time. I enjoyed many of Julie Garwoods contemps, I know some people just want her historicals, but she has, IMO, some good characters that she writes really well so you feel like you know them and then you see them in other of her stories. (never enough however, I always want to know what they are up to after)

Which is another good point regarding FSoG and not easy to find, a story that goes past the H/h getting together, if that is what you want in a story, it is much harder to find. IMO

Linda thank you for the recs. You're an angel. I can always count on you. I've already put Ana's Attic on my favorite bar.

Judyblueeyes, I liked EVERYTHING about FSOG. I can't put my finger on any one thing. You're right though I need to find authors who write like E.L.

I think that's just exactly it! I'd love to find another book like Fifty but even though I can seek out certain aspects of it none of them pull it all together into one story in the same way as E.L. James did.

I read To Love a Dark Lord years ago when I was going through an Anne Stuart phase, maybe it's time for a reread.

Last night I started Crash by Nicole Williams and so far so good. Here is the hero's first line to the heroine - "The name's Jude Ryder, since I know you're all but salivating like a rabid dog to know, and I don't do girlfriends, relationships, flowers or regular phone calls. If that works for you, I think we could work out something special."

*snort!* I just know this guy is going to fall hard, haha

Double Snort, that is an awesome opener to the heroine, I hope her line was just as good letting him know what she thought about being compared to a rabid dog! There is one guy begging to learn the meaning of "something special" the hard way.

I might have to see if my library has Crash in ePub.
