I just finished Ruined by Midnight by Emma Wildes. I was liking it OK--I thought that the secondary romance should have been the primary romance and I also found the Elena's sexual zero-to-sixty unbelievable, but it was still cute and sweet. Until this: when Ran returned home after their escape to see his sister and reassure him over his disappearance, he says that he was worried that she would react badly to his sudden disappearance because their parents "disappeared" [died] suddenly in a carriage accident during an impromptu getaway to Bath. The problem is, during their imprisonment, Ran told Elena all about how his mother died from a wasting disease and, after that, his father died from a broken heart. Holy Continuity Problem! The editor didn't catch this? It completely ruined the book for me. Of course, I had to finish it, so I got to be further disappointed poorly resolved ending.
Did anyone else catch this? |

| I was reading this in the wee hours and thought the same thing. I began second guessing myself and thinking I must have confused the couples and thought maybe it was Ben that had the experience you mentioned but I think you are right. Anyways, I still found I liked this Emma Wildes story and look forward to her next one. I was surprised to be more interested in Ben and Alicia's story then Ran and Elena's. I liked this one more than The Third Duke's The Charm (which was only $3.99). I am a big fan of Wildes and like Ben as a detective with his wife helping sleuth. I look forward to her next book, An Improper Rumor, next May. |
