This!

I'm going to also add that I can remember at some point years ago finding a couple vhs porn tapes in my parents bedroom, along with a toy, after the initial 'my parents do what??', I got a laugh out of it. I'm pretty sure my brother played those tapes for himself too, lol. They've been married over 50 years and didn't turn into pedophiles or porn addicts, though my dad is addicted to playing those poker games online (pretend money), haha. My mom later told me stories about couples they knew that were 'swingers' though they didn't participate in this lifestyle and I never would have guessed it!

So I guess early on I got the message that this type of thing was no big deal, people explore their sexuality in different ways. I've been married for 20 years now and we've watched some porn tapes for fun, some better than others. Harmful? Perhaps the bad acting. Anything can be harmful if it gets out of hand or is used to the extreme.

Embarassed my brother and I found playboy mags all the time, once missed the morning school bus looking through them. So that is a bad side-effect, i guess.
My parents also knew a couple that were swingers (this was the mid 70's) came out sometime after us kids were adults. My parents didn't swing, but they were aware of the life style too. So I suggest NOTHING IS NEW, only to us. But I think the more certain life styles are excepted the less harm that comes. More harm is done by people being made to feel damaged or deviant. Look to a guy kid as a perfect example, finally society is excepting that we come in different versions and it is ok. (this in no way extends to child molesters)

Interesting discussion. Regarding child porn and pedophilia -- I'm not an expert and I haven't read much of the research on the correlation of child porn and pedophilia. However, I have been a child abuse prosecutor for over 20 years and have investigated and tried hundreds of child sex abuse cases. Anecdotally, I absolutely believe child porn is connected to pedophilia. It is very common to find child porn on the computers of the perpetrators. I believe with certainty that when a person who has a sexual attraction to children views child porn it helps to normalize the behavior in his mind and thereby helps him break through the social barriers to using children for sex.

I'm not very sure about the following, but I have a growing suspicion that child porn may also lead non-pedophiles into experimenting with children in order to get sexual kicks. As others mentioned earlier in the thread, exposure to pornography in general makes what was previously exciting less so. People then tend to go for more and more graphic or extreme porn to get the same level of arousal. I'm beginning to suspect that for some, when they've reached saturation with the limits of adult sex, they move to the last taboo -- children.

I don't think there's much of a question that people in general try what they watch in porn. I've read that there's been a great increase in anal sex among heterosexuals that's being attributed to watching porn. In regards to adult porn, I'm personally not a fan because I do find it misogynistic; however, I think whether viewing it enhances or damages a person's relationship probably depends on the individual, how the porn is used (as a solitary means of getting off or watching with the partner as foreplay) and how often the person watches it.
