Need help finding a book -- possibly a series ~SOLVED~

I read a book about 12 years ago that I'd like to find again.

There was a wagon trail - consisting of many families. Some boys had gone off to hunt and came across a woman - unconscious - who had just given birth (stillborn). They took her back to their mother who tried to clean her up and care for her.

Also on the wagon trail was a man who's wife had just died giving birth to their son. The baby wasn't feeding so the boys' mother convinced the man to let the woman nurse the baby. Over the days and weeks that followed, the man and woman fell in love while overcoming all sorts of obstacles.

There is another book that continues the story; characters are about 16 years older. It revolves around the daughter of the couple and one of the boys (men) that had found the woman in the woods.

I thought both books were very good (despite the dire beginning) but I can't seem to find them again. Thank you for any input!!!
