By Regina Jeffers. Has anyone read this?? It was listed in 2 bookstore as a staff recommendation. I have been tempted to buy on three occasions. Mr. Darcy as a vampire? I thought interesting, but thought I would check with the readers on this board. _________________ Miss Willard at first refused to get into a lifeboat, and so an exasperated officer said, "Don't waste time-let her go if she won't get in!"

Never heard of that one, but Amanda Grange, who has taken Ms Austen's classics and written books from her heroes' points of view (Mr Darcy's Diary, Colonel Brandon's Diary, Mr Knightly's Diary, etc) wrote one that came out in August, Mr Darcy, Vampyre. Haven't read it nor any of these other "paranormal"/spoof Austens. Just not a trend I'm interested in . . . _________________ Later that night, still 1789!

There certainly are an excessive amount of "Darcy" books out there. I hadn't realized until I kept coming upon them at the many visits to Barnes and Noble. I like the cover on this one...not many reviews on Amazon. I would like to read it if it has an interesting romance. Darcy as a vampire...I think I could get into that one. I should have asked at the store, because it was a staff recommendation. I am not at that particular B&N regularly. I'll probablly end up buying it at one point and reading it. _________________ Miss Willard at first refused to get into a lifeboat, and so an exasperated officer said, "Don't waste time-let her go if she won't get in!"

I read about half of this before I gave up on it. For a vampire novel, not a lot happened to propel the novel forward. After the wedding, he and Elizabeth decide to go to France to visit his French relatives. He abstains from sleeping with her. She wonders if he's the man she married. Weird relatives, strange happenings. Like any marriage, really.
I guess I feel about these books the way I do about the Sherlock Holmes pastiches. (Most of those rely on the stereotype of Holmes, so what we get is "I say, Watson!" "Elementary, Watson" "The cocaine, Watson!" BORING). I think in the novels, Holmes' addition is spoken of only seven times in the 54 short stories and 4 novels, and three of those times, it's spoken of in the past tense (same with the deerstalker, which isn't mentioned at all but has become such a symbol of Holmes that the films have him going to the opera wearing it).
Basically, why can't these folks create their own characters with their own odd behaviors? Why can't Mr. Smyth-Jones be a vampire, instead of Mr. Darcy? I suppose it's the name recognition for book sales. I understand that, but I think it's kind of insulting at the same time to think I'd only buy a book only because of the name of it.
