Apparently, we don't have a music thread ... I think.
I'm not one to listen to a lot of current music, mostly because I think a great deal of it is bad, generic, and in fact, generically bad. Just doesn't live up to the classic rock of the 70's and 80's. However, with Youtube, Itunes, and other methods of sampling the music scene these days, I've been discovering some fairly new music while reminiscing over and enjoying some of the old. Since it's free, I especially love browsing via Youtube, listening to songs and seeing snippets of concerts and performances which helps me to get familiar with the new and maybe even buy some of it. Leaving that aside, I also find some of the videos these artists come up with to be amusing and some leave me scratching my head.
Anyway, I was perusing Youtube this evening and thought I'd share a few invigorating (and -- ahem -- stimulating)/odd/unintentionally funny music videos. Not many involve "new" music, so I'm slipping I'm afraid.
The following isn't so much a video as a concert snippet. That aside, if this doesn't get you up on your feet and moving your hips nothing will. And, Rob Thomas. Hmm. Even though his voice isn't conventionally "pretty," there's just something about him. He certainly fills out a pair of leather pants very, very well. Sexy. (Oh, yeah, and Carlos Santana is good too. )

Here's a slow version of Smooth, without Santana or ... Alas(!) ... Rob's leather pants.

Okay, here's an odd one. It opens up like a scene from an historical romance novel and then, all of a sudden, a pop power ballad breaks out. I can't quite figure out where they came up with this concept. Bizarre. That aside, no one can deny that Steve Perry can sing.

I swear, this reminds of a feminine hygiene protection commercial or those films they used to show young girls about "becoming a woman." Don't worry! You can still do splits and jumps and leaps even during that special time of the month, my friend.
Faith Hill - This Kiss

Is this a Rorschach test or what? OH!!! I get it ... Crazy. Rorschach Test. How do they come up with these obvious connections? <snerk>

I loved the Oh Sherrie video. My husband knows, if there's ever a chance for me to run away with Steve Perry, I going.
Steve Perry and Paul McCartney. Those are my free affairs. _________________ Angsty romance with scattered humor.

Have you heard the new singer for Journey? One of the original band members saw him on youtube and contacted him to reform the band. I think he's from Thailand and he sounds exactly like Steve Perry.
I've recently discovered Kings of Leon...look for Sex on Fire, Closer or Crawl from their newest album.
I love Kanye West's newest, Love Lockdown.
I'm not sure if this Canadian band has made it past the border, but Hedley is a great group. For The Nights I Can't Remember is my favourite. The lead singer was on Canadian Idol a few seasons ago...finished 3rd...but there were rumours that he wanted out so he could stay with his band. |

I am from the generation of '70's and 80's rock, but I have found so many bands and musicians doing wonderful music now. My husband is pretty much stuck in the '70's, but I really enjoy so many bands today. I have always loved music from a very early age and love and continued on and on. I've got a ton of favorites, but here is one song from O.A.R that I put on my ipod..just today....

As for Steve Perry...never was much of a fan, even in the 70's. I was really in the minority. |

Kings Of Leon...Margaret, I like them very much. Great song!
Here is another singer I really have been listening to a lot lately...Missy Higgins. A great voice from Australia.

Adding one more. I love the new Coldplay CD, Viva LaVida. The song Viva LaVida is wonderful, but I've always wondered what or who, it is about. My husband, who is a history buff, thinks it's about King Louis XVI, since the album cover is a portrait from the French Revolution. Others, think it is written about Constantine or even Jesus. Lots of religious mentions...supposedly since Chris Martin (lead singer) had a break with the Catholic Church. Anyway...here is the video. I love the entire CD......

I've seen him. The vocal resemblance is amazing, but it's just not the same (sigh.)
Moxy Fruvous is fantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9F_XHb81N0

I agree Donna! Her hit, Mercy is great, but all of her CD is very good. I like, Hanging On Too Long. I think a book could be based on those lyrics. Love her style too. It's new...yet strikes of music 30 years ago. Very unique. |

Okay, this is a cool video. It's a tribute to Freddie Mercury by Elton John and Axl Rose (of all people) with a fantastically huge crowd as back-up, in perfect pitch singing Bohemian Rhapsody.
(I love stumbling across these things.)

One of my favorite new artists: Brandi Carlile.
I think she's incredible. I found her, oddly enough, when I heard "The Story" over and over again during the Olympics, as it was featured in a GM commercial. I googled it, got her name, and downloaded her album. It's pretty fantastic. _________________ Jane AAR |
