The Top Top picks of 2013

BEST-2013On Friday we shared the books AAR staffers chose as their favorite book of 2013. The list is varied with romances from almost every genre selected by at least one of the 17 respondents.

There are a few books and authors, however, who garnered a bit more praise.

The book selected the most frequently as the best romance of 2013 is Sherry Thomas’s The Luckiest Lady in London. Three reviewers chose that historical romance: Heather, Alexandra, and Caz (Caz’s review is here).

The author mentioned the most is Lauren Willig. Two reviewers picked The Passion of the Purple Plumeria (you can read reviews of it here and here) as their top 2013 romance (LinnieGayl and Rike); two more picked The Ashford Affair (review here) as a runner-up (Lynn and LinnieGayl).

Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor and Park was chosen by Jenna as her top pick of the year (her review is here) and as a runner-up by Heather. Ms. Rowell’s Fangirl was Melanie’s first choice.

Susanna Kearsley’s Firebird was nominated as the best of 2013 by Lynn and was one Lee’s runners-up (review here). Grace Burrowes also got two nods. Darius was one of Mary’s top book choices (review here); Once Upon a Tartan was a runner-up for Caz (her review is here).

Out of the top picks, nine were historical romances, two were contemps, three were paranormals, two were young adult, one was New Adult, and one was male/male.

That’s what we liked in 2013. What about you?
