Cavill was kind of the knight in shining armour so I'm a bit biased here. What speaks for Cavill is that he's younger than Somerhalder and Bomer. He would be still young enough (under thirty) to play Christian. The one who could definitley play the role is Rhys Meyers. He's extremely intense, has that sexy stare and can do depraved and dangerous any time but in other movies he pulled off the romantic, shy and good natured guy. So he's the most versatile actor. He's also not afraid of steamy sex scenes (neither is Cavill though).

Oh, good one Kerstin! I love Rhys Meyers and hadn't thought of him. He really could do intense. Haven't seen The Tudors, but keep meaning to. Note for the near future. I did read something about him recently. Something sad that he had tried to commit suicide but was now in therapy. I haven't read anything about it since. _________________ "As you wish"

Kerstin, I think I need to start watching The Tudors, lots of hotties in that bunch! I also see that Rhys is working on the tv series Dracula, I had seen a brief thing about that and was getting excited, I can't stay away from anything vampire related, haha

Yes, the guys were absolute lookers in that one. Seldom that I say that but the guys were actually way hotter than the girls here. The whole series was very HBO-like.
I didn't hear about the suicide thing, "only" that Rhys Meyers is an alcohol addict and that he had a difficult childhood, brought up by an alcoholic single mother, father left when he was three. He even spent time at an orphanage. That might be why I subconsciously associated Christian with Rhys Meyers: Like Christian he had a very difficult childhood and as a result boatloads of issues, besides he was together with a much older woman for a while, too.
I think the role could be even therapeutic for him. As Billy Bob Thornton once said in an interview, the roles an actor takes on often reflects his state or growth in real life (current example would be Johnny Depp who separated from his old domestic cozy life with Vanessa Paradis & kids and turned to alcohol and womanizing while making the movie "Rum Diary")
"Bild" (a German tabloid) currently discusses possibly choices for Ana: Amanda Seyfried, Emma Watson and Angelina Jolie who actually said she wants the role (well you have to take Bild news with a huge grain of salt...)
Picturing Emma Watson as Ana made me hoot with laughter because my niece showed me a highly politically incorrect parody of "Harry Potter" on German youtube where the actual film was dubbed by one horny teenager who spoke all the roles. It was totally pornographic and Hermine's character was turned into a sex-crazed dominatrix who wants to use her magic wand on the guys all the time....so her choice seems weirdly funny to me somehow.

Kerstin, I had the same look on my face when they suggested Emma Watson! Um no I just cannot imagine! Maybe I need to watch the German parody, lol. Same look for Angelina Jolie when I heard her name come up but then someone said no..she wants to direct it. I guess she could be Elena but she is way too old to be Ana.

Xina that is a riot!! Funniest - Channing Tatum for exhibitionist Christian Grey and Colin Farrel for drunk Christian Grey. Priceless! Alexander Skarsgard for Scandinavian Christan Grey - YUM!

I know...love Skarsgard representing Scandinavia! And I'm not opposed to Ryan Gosling either. Very nice. _________________ "As you wish"

Kerstin...just today I started watching The Tudors with Rhy Meyers, and I agree....he does have the intensity to play Christian., in spades. In fact, he seems to be the perfect match, but is he a little too short, or is he standing around very tall men? Anyway, I'm loving the series even though I am not that far into it. Lots of sex scenes...wowee!!
About the Emma Watson part...SNL did a parody of Harry Potter and Lynsey Lohan played her part, complete with huge breasts. It was very funny, but I am not a Harry Potter fan. Maybe the true fans were annoyed with Lohan's portrayal. _________________ "As you wish"

Rhys Meyers is not that tall, between 5.10 and 5.11. But one notices this more because the other actors were indeed taller. I don't know if you have come yet to that part but I found it immensly funny when King Henry had a pair of underpants on which had a crown stiched on the backside. I think the producers of that series often took the whole thing not too seriously.
Now Hermine with huge breasts...these parodies whether German or American have the same ideas essentially. LOL.
As for the Christian Grey picture gallery I liked the DILF Clive Owen version best along with the troll Grey. LMAO.

The underpants...LOL...I'm on episode 5 of Season 1. I don't think I have come to that part, but I am watching on my ipad, and may have missed it. Too funny! I'll keep my eye out for that one.
Meyers certainly has the intensity to play Christian, and he's not shy about doing sex scenes and being naked on film. One thing about him playing Henry...I just can't imagine Henry VIII being that attractive, but I suppose that is the point. _________________ "As you wish"
