Books with Buzz: Nalini Singh Interview and Five-Book Giveaway (Contest Closed)

Wednesday, June 6th, 2012

tangleThe minute I read Nalini Singh’s Slave of Sensation, I knew we had something special in our hands.  In the intervening six, short years, Nalini has published fifteen stories in her thought-provoking Psy/Changeling series, each of them gritty, passionate, and loads of fun.

With this month’s release of Tangle of Need, we took the opportunity to ask Nalini a few questions, and she’s coming along with some free books in tow.  Five lucky readers will have their pick of any one book from the previous 10 books in the Psy/Changeling series (not including Tangle of Need – sorry), and all you have to do to enter is comment on this post by Friday, June 8, 11:59 p.m. EST.  We will notify winners by email on Saturday morning, and they will have 24 hours to respond.  If we don’t hear from a winner within that time, a new winner will be selected.  If you review for another Web site or blog, please don’t enter.  Unfortunately, only residents of the U.S. and Canada are eligible to enter.

Now, on to Nalini!

Speaking of Audiobooks: Phil Gigante Interview and Fever Series Giveaway (Contest Closed)

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Phil Gigante head shotIn the world of romance audiobooks, there’s one name that nearly everyone knows – Phil Gigante.  Phil is probably best known around here for his narration of Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander Series and, most recently, his performance of the male characters in Dreamfever, the fourth book of Moning’s Fever Series.  Phil reprises those roles in Shadowfever, the final of the Fever Series which is set for release in both print and audio on January 18th.   What better time to conduct our very first narrator interview?

To celebrate the release of Shadowfever, we are giving away the entire set of the Fever Series audiobooks (five in all) on CD, courtesy of Brilliance Audio.  Place your name in the hat by commenting on this column by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, January 20th.  Due to the cost of postage, the giveaway is open only to listeners in the U.S. and Canada.  We ask that you comment only once and if you review for another Web site or blog, please refrain from entering.  The winner will be notified by email on Friday morning and will have 24 hours to respond.  Another winner will be selected on Saturday morning if the winner has not responded.  Now, let’s talk with Phil!

Books with Buzz: Deanna Raybourn Interview and 10-Book Giveaway (Contest Closed)

Monday, February 1st, 2010

47683349In 2009 I made one of those discoveries that we readers live for:  A new author whose books I loved.  The author was Deanna Raybourn and the books were the first three in her series featuring Lady Julia Grey, a Victorian aristocrat who finds herself in circumstances she could never have imagined and discovers talents she never knew she had.  And, of course, there is Nicholas, the most enigmatic —and intriguing — man she’s ever meant.  I recommend the books — Silent in the Grave, Silent in the Sanctuary, and Silent on the Moor — to everyone who enjoys romantic historical mysteries.

Deanna Raybourn has a new historical mystery coming out on March 1.  The Dead Travel Fast is not a Lady Julia Grey story, but instead is a stand-alone that represents a return to the classic Gothics so many of us remember with much fondness — it even takes place in a crumbling and mysterious castle in Transylvania.  I loved it.

To celebrate the release, Deanna Raybourn took the time to answer a few of my questions.  And, even better for 10 lucky readers, we’ve got 10 copies of The Dead Travel Fast to give away, thanks to the generosity of Mira. To enter for your chance to win a copy, all you need to do is comment to this post by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, February 4th. The usual caveats apply: Due to high shipping costs, this contest is open only to U.S. and Canadian readers.  And, since the giveaway is designed to get advance copies of books into the hands of readers who wouldn’t otherwise have access to them, if you review for another Web site or blog, please don’t enter.  Winners will be announced here on Friday morning.

Ready to hear from Deanna?

RedEnvelope: Enter for Your Chance to Win One of Two $50 Gift Cards (Contest Closed)

Monday, December 28th, 2009

REDE_SignatureGiftBoxA few years ago, I was going through a stressful time.  One day the UPS man brought me something I hadn’t ordered:  Beautifully packaged in a big red box and tied with a ribbon, I found a home spa getaway basket.  The kit contained everything I needed to kick back and de-stress with some quality Me Time.  It also let me know that a friend was thinking of me and wishing me the very best – at a moment when I both least expected and most needed it.

The gift my was my introduction to RedEnvelope, a site for unique and personalized gifts.  RedEnvelope is all about indulging yourself or someone you love in a little bit of luxury and they offer everything from spa packages to silk pajamas to help you do just that. And, since presentation is part of the experience when you’re giving a gift (or an indulgence for yourself), everything comes packaged in the signature red gift box with ivory ribbon pictured on the left.  As someone who received a gift from RedEnvelope,  I can personally report that it’s lovely.

Since all of us could use a little Me Time right about now – not to mention that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, we’ve got a good one today:

Two $50 RedEnvelope gift cards are up for grabs for two lucky readers.  To enter for your chance to win, just comment to this post by 11:59 pm eastern time on December 31st.  And – not required, but it would be nice – we’d love it if you’d share with us a story of an unexpected gift or moment in your life when someone did something wonderful for you when you most needed it.

Books with Buzz: Meredith Duran Interview and ARC Giveaway (Contest Now Closed)

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

38001381Three of AAR’s publishers are buzzing – literally – about Bound by Your Touch, Meredith Duran’s new historical novel to be released at the end of June.

Here’s what Blythe had to say:  “For me, it’s all about the hero – he was completely delicious. The book is just plain encouraging; sometimes it’s easy to think all the really good books have been written already, and there’s nothing else out there.”

Here’s what I say:  I devoured this novel in a  kind of giddy frenzy. The hero is one of the sexiest and most seductive I’ve ever come across and the heroine forthright, likable, sympathetic, and believably damaged.  Bound by Your Touch is one of the best – the very best – historical romances I’ve ever read.

As for Rachel…well, you’ll just have to wait for her upcoming review.  But I think it’s fair to say that she liked it!  She really liked it!

What makes this universal buzz (Lynn hasn’t yet had a chance to read the book) unusual is that we’re all very different readers with very different tastes. I simply can’t recall the last time we’ve had this kind of consensus. Which means, I think, that we have a remarkable book on our hands.

And, to make the good news even better, the incredible Bound by Your Touch will be followed with another release in August, Written on Your Skin.

The talented and time-challenged Meredith Duran (she was also preparing for the oral defense of her dissertation at the time we were putting this together) patiently answered a few of my questions.  And since there are few things we love more around here than the chance to put great books in the hands of readers, she was kind enough to offer an ARC of Bound by Your Touch to one lucky reader.  To enter for your chance to win, simply comment to this post by 11:59 p.m. eastern time on Thursday, June 11th. A few caveats:  Regretfully, you must have a U.S. mailing address to be eligible and if you review or write for another romance Web site or blog, please don’t enter.

We’re very excited about this one.  I hope after reading this interview, you will be, too.
