It’s Time to Vote for Your Favorite Bad Boy

0000003966_20060919213600You voted and here are the top 12 Bad Boys nominated by you, the readers of AAR.

And, as promised, here’s the poll in which one Bad Boy will emerge triumphant as…well, AAR Readers’ Unofficial Favorite Bad Boy.

This time out, it’s limited to fictional characters, but the suggestion to expand into movies and TV is a most excellent one and it will be forthcoming.

But, in the meantime, let’s wallow in our fictional love.

A note:  Eric Northman insisted on being included.  Really he did.  It was out of my hands.  Also much gratitude to LinnieGayl, statistical guru and all around pal, for putting together the top 10.

So, hit me.  (And it would be nice to get as many votes as possible to make this as Official an Unofficial poll as we can.)

Vidal … but it was hard. Sebastian was close behind! Great poll … thanks :)

  2. Tee says:

For me, from the names listed, it was a no-brainer–Christian from “Devil’s Waltz” by Anne Stuart. And that book was the last good one I read from her to this point.

  3. katyco says:

It was a close run between Dain and Sebastian St. Vincent but Sebastian wins. He’s the king of sexy bad.

  4. MarissaB says:

I picked Zsadist. He was the one most changed when he accepted his love. He had to fight to be happy.

I’m not surprised Eric is at the top, but I didn’t pick him because he doesn’t value Sookie enough.

  6. Andi AAR says:

Well, sadly I’m not familiar with many of these bad boys, though I have plans to become familiar with them. I do know Derek Craven well, so he earned my vote, though I think of him more as someone from a different class who sticks out in the upper echelons of society.

I do want to say thanks for including the picture of Spike. Now, he is probably my favorite bad boy ever. I love that guy!

  7. katyco says:

Hey, not fare! My bad boy doesn’t have a website.

  8. Laura says:

Eric by a LOT. Zsadist get a distant second. Vamps rule.

  9. ErinN says:

Although I love so many of these dreamy bad boy heroes, right now it is all about Eric Northman. WOW! That is one tall drink of nordic ice water.

I do believe Eric values Sookie enough. It may have been a gradual thing, but he has been there for her time and again… even when it went against his and the vampires best interest.

What a great list. If you are looking for other great classic bad boy books check out any by Kathrine Sutcliffe… especially Fire in the Heart and its wonderful sequel My Only Love and Shadow Play.

  10. pumpkinn-queenn says:

i picked Eric, it was a tough pick between him and Roarke but there should have been Acheron from the dark-hunter series..i love him

  11. Cindy says:

Even though Eric is my top pick I gave Zsadist my vote because he just fills my heart with joy.

  12. Ashley says:

No one can beat Eric imho. His power and ruthlessness makes him sexy enough, but when you throw in his real love for Sookie and how gentle he is with her….. ((Drool))!!!!

  13. Wheezer says:

Eric can’t help it…he’s such an alpha male; why does he have to be a fictional character?

  14. Claire says:

Can you vote more than once? I’m a little surprised to see the Sookie Stackhouse guy voted for so much..whatsup with that?

  15. Goosie says:

It took a little bit of thinking but it came down to Derek Craven, St Vincent and Roarke….and Roarke won. I love him. A lot. A lot a lot.

However all of this hype about this Eric character is pushing me to read the Sookie Stackhouse series…and I did try to watch True Blood but….the southern accent REALLY annoyed me. And then the scene in the 2nd episode where sookie had to drink billy’s blood completely turned it off core me (I can’t deal with blood at all…). So maybe I’ll read the books and see what the hype is about them.

  16. Lala says:

You should totally read the Sookie Stackhouse series. They are an incredibly fun, easy read. I really didn’t like Eric at first, but boy has he grown on me! Now I have started re-reading my old books because its killing me to wait for the next one to come out! This is a great poll. I have never heard of many of these characters, I am going to print this list and head to the nearest bookstore! :-)

  17. Katie Mack says:

I had to go with my man Roarke.

  18. jebe says:

Look at Eric’s numbers, what a killer ! I didn’t even vote for him!

  19. katyco says:

Claire: Can you vote more than once? I’m a little surprised to see the Sookie Stackhouse guy voted for so much..whatsup with that?

There’s a link on the Eric Northman website to this poll.

  20. Carol says:

Goosie: My vote is for Eric.

I was the same way about the show. I saw one clip and decided there was no way I could watch because of the accents. After constant nagging from my friends, I decided to read the books, and I’m glad I did. It’s been a long time since a fictional character has captured my interest the way Eric has. Since then I have watched TB, and while TB Eric is great, it’s Book Eric that has my heart. ♥ him!!

  21. Carol says:

I have no idea how my comment got messed up. I was trying to quote Goosie. Sorry about that.

  22. Jane O says:

Eric Northman? Zsadist? Are you kidding? Maybe there should be a poll for who’s your favorite freak;)

  23. LinnieGayl says:

I had to vote for Roarke!

  24. Claire says:

I voted for Derek. It was either him or Sebastian

  25. Alison says:

Yay for Eric! Book or show, book Eric’s sweet and devilishly romantic, but I love looking at Alexander Skarsgard ;) No complaints here.

  26. Tee says:

There’s a link on the Eric Northman website to this poll.

Sounds as though Northman’s selection is a bit weighted then (606 votes contrasted with the next highest one with only 58).

  27. Jane O says:

I didn’t mean to sound snotty earlier, but there seems to be a pretty wide definition of “bad” here. I think of it as choosing to do something bad, not being stuck with it, or just carrying acceptable behavior a bit too far. The really bad boys I see here in my sense are Johnny Cain, a killer, and Sebastian Verlaine, who truly abuses his power.

    Obviously, others see it differently

  28. AAR Sandy says:

This poll was designed as a light Friday diversion in the midst of the August doldrums. Nothing more. To answer Claire’s question, you can vote only once on a browser. If someone has two browsers, then they would get two votes, but, as a rule, only one vote per person will register.

As for new readers, they are always welcome. Maybe some will stick around and join in the discussions.

  29. othena says:

I voted for Sebastian St. Vincent because he was my first bad boy when I begin to read romances again after several years hiatus.

  30. Mel says:

Eric- best hottest badass vampire ever…:)

  31. CindyS says:

I had to pick Zsadist. And I’m an Anne Stuart junkie.

  32. KristieJ says:

My mouse hovered over so many of these bad boy heroes and amazingly enough I knew most of them. But in the end I had to go with Johnny Cain from The Outsider.

  33. Mallory says:

I used to love Spike from Buffy, but Eric the Northman stole my heart. GO ERIC!!!!

  34. patsy says:

Wicked Viking Warrior all the way!!!

  35. willaful says:

False advertising! I didn’t get to vote for Spike!

I went with Roarke, but now think I should’ve gone with Sebastian. Roarke is really a former bad boy.

  36. Renee says:

For me, must be Christian from Devil’s Waltz. This is fun though because it is exposing me to do “bad boys.”

  37. Maryfranc says:

Anne Stuart’s men are real bad boys. Sebastian (sp?) from BlacK Ice was a cold one. Loved the Ice series.

  39. xina says:

Eric….hands down. I am just finishing the series, so I sort of have Eric on the brain. All the other bb’s pale :) in comparison.

  40. danger says:

Why is Acheron from the Dark Hunter series not on this list. He just oozes sexiness…and the Harbringer of Death…can’t get much more “bad boy” than that. Do love Eric Northman too (drool), but Ash has it all.

  41. pink says:

i agree with danger. i love me some eric northman. ash is second but only b/c of alexander skarsgard. even though ash is based on travis fimmel, who is positively yummy, alex is in your face every sunday. even more with the re-runs on hbo.

  42. Steffy says:

    Zsadist forever!!!

  43. Caryl says:

Vere. I copied Chery’s quote from her review, which absolutely cracks me up, “We’re of one mind, Grenville and I, and the mind is hers, on account of my being a man and not having one.” He put Grenville through a lot before he finally accepted the bit.

  44. Pat says:

    Nadie como Zsadist

  45. Christina says:

The best thing about Eric…he’s that bad boy that your parents always warned you about…but he vindicates them in that he will do anything and everything for Sookie. He’s unbelievably loyal to her. I watched the first season of True Blood before I read the books, and I was Team Bill initially. Once I read the books and realized what a “lying a-hole” Bill was…I was definitely all for Eric. Alex’s gorgeous body in my mind while I was reading also helped…lol.

  46. Ellie says:

Sebastian St Vincent from Devil in Winter

    no comments necessary

  47. Francesca says:

Sebastian always reminded me of Spike and since Spike is the ultimate bad boy I had to vote for Sebastian.

  48. Steff says:

Love the poll and results! Eric of course by a landslide though I love that pix of “Spike” aka James Marsten. Can’t wait to place my vote for him!

  49. Anne Stuart says:

Bless whoever voted for DEVIL’S WALTZ but I voted for Vidal. Be still my heart!

I had a hard time deciding — gave me a lot to think about, why bad boys work etc. I think I’ll blog about it next week.
