True, and Audible could certainly charge you card on file if you didn't have a credit available. But, like Brenda mentioned, I think a lot of people only buy with credits or when there is a sale (like me) so getting charged the member price for a book you pre-ordered and meant to buy with a credit might be irritating, even if you could only be irritated with yourself.

Audible could do one of several things: 1) They could let you indicate that you want to be notified immediately when the book was available. 2) They could let you pre-order only if you had a credit available, and then remove that credit from your stock. or 3) Make it clear when you pre-order that if you don't have a credit available you will be charged the member price for the book.

Personally, I think option 1 is the best bet.

Amazon doesn't seem to have an issue with pre-ordering -- they just notify you if your card on file doesn't "work" (I learned this because I had to replace a hacked card, but didn't think to change the card for this purchase until I was notified of the failure).

I was excited to see the coming soon feature expanding at Audible with the ability to sort by genre an added bonus. Having the narrator names listed and knowing the narrator will influence my choices as well.

I hadn't thought about this aspect Carrie they’d need some way to lock your credit into the purchase of that book, otherwise you might not have one available when the book is released. but it would be so true. What if they didn't lock the credit down and ended up charging your credit card on file for the book if a credit wasn't available? There would be some mighty unhappy people out there. :O

Knowing Audible is aware of and working on these abilities is enough to give thanks for regardless!

I've thought it odd that Audible didn't have a "coming soon" section. In fact, I found it downright irritating. Mainly I want to know when an audiobook is scheduled for release without having to visit publisher sites, which I don't very often because I really don't have time.

I wouldn't mind the ability to pre-order, either. There are enough books I know I'll buy that pre-order button would be helpful. Perhaps they don't do that because of the whole "credit" thing. If you pre-order, they'd need some way to lock your credit into the purchase of that book, otherwise you might not have one available when the book is released.

So instead of pre-order, perhaps they could have a "notify me by email when the book becomes available option. ;-)

But for right now I'll drop them a line thanking them for the coming soon section and hope for more in the future.
