I have a small, doubt much people ever seen review site, and I do it for my own amusement, because I love ranting and raving about the books I read. Sometimes can be a pain in the butt (like when my whole site crashed while I was trying to change the layout) but I’m happy with it.

I personally love reading reviews, especially since I don’t live in the US and I can’t afford not to like a book I buy (postage is expensive).

So I love reviews, I love spoiler hunting and I basically love you all reviewers (except Harriet Harriet Klausner, ’cause I doubt she even exist, let alone reads the books she ‘reviews’).

I talk about the books I read because I simply LOVE to talk about books.
I read reviews casually. there are a few reviewers whose taste I kinda know and how it relates to my taste and sometimes they may influence a purchse but I read reviews more AFTER I’ve read a book. It keeps the story going just a while longer.
Yeah, I’m an addict.

Very interesting post. I am generally impressed by the good intentions of reviewers. Your post just confirms why. I love reading well-thought out reviews that explain what the reviewer thinks and why. I greatly appreciate a thorough review, rather than what amounts to a synopsis.
I agree with HazelB–thanks to you and your colleagues for great, thoughtful reviews. They matter to us readers! Keep it up.

I just want all of you reviewers to know that your efforts are appreciated. I admire your tenacity and dedication–especially because I know I would have a hard time doing it myself. I would not have the patience to dissect what I liked and didn’t like about a book and I would procrastinate endlessly before putting any words together. So thanks to all who take the time to write thoughtful reviews.

Excellent column, Rike. I review simply for the love of the genre and I appreciate the dedication and talent of so many writers across all genres. I’ve never met an author or had any personal communication except for an interview that I did once. It’s not a personal choice so much as a lack of opportunity. However, I do fear communitcation might cause me to lose my objectivity, which is something I would regret if it were to happen.
