J R Ward will be doing a signing on August 13, 2:00 PM Barnes & Noble 3029 State Road 50, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

I'm not sure of the point of an independent book seller holding a signing away from their store. If getting customers into their business and buying books is the point then why hold the event elsewhere? I know it's a problem that most signings come long after the books' release date but even then it rather defeats the purpose of making sales.

I've noticed that several authors are now doing 'virtual signings' so if a reader really wants a signed copy, for themselves or a gift, the brick and mortar stores are still going to be out of luck.

You're welcome, The Romantic Scientist. I have a very short list of authors I might pay to see. However, I would hope if the event were held in a bookstore (and not a theater) that the fee would be waived if you purchased a book there.

Like you, I've attended signings where the bookstore asked that you purchase the book from them, which I don't mind. I haven't yet seen an event with a cost of admission, and like you, I'd have to evaluate that on a case by case basis.

Thanks for posting the list!
