I have a list, not so much a “wish list,” as a “hope the library orders these books/movies list.” And yeah, my friends definitely know not to buy me books but give me a gift card instead.

My wish list on amazon is a little different. It only has books, but it doesn’t necessarily have the books I want the most. What it does have is books that have been recommended that I know I’d forget about immediately if I didn’t put them somewhere. First I search the library catalog and put it on my library list if it’s there. If not, then I search goodreads and put it on my “to-read” list there (another list that is as much a holding place as a real reading list). Lastly, especially if it’s a kindle book, I put it on my wish list on amazon. Since I won’t forget to go buy my favorite authors’ newest books, I rarely put them on a wish list. And, no, no one uses my wish list to buy me presents. If they want to feed my book habit, they all know to buy me gift cards so I can choose what I’m in the mood to read.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the wish list story. I totally hear you, my sister is the same way. Me, not so much. The site I use for my lists allows me to make multiple lists on the same account, so I have a shopping one, a Christmas one, and several others, all to help me keep track of what I want.
