I grew up listening to My Fair Lady. I am not kidding you: When I was a small child, my parents had a lot of classical music on records, a couple of German songwriters, and My Fair Lady and Fiddler on the Roof (both in a German version). I was allowed to handle the record player from a very young age, and often chose to play the musicals for their catchy tunes.
To this day I can sing most of the songs from either musical, and often turn to hum them in either happy or stressed moods. On the Street Where You Live is one of the happy songs for me, and today I found myself whistling it while cutting apricots for making jam.
By happy coincidence I have found the very version that I listened to as a child (the German dubbing of the 1964 movie version) on YouTube. Enjoy!
Did you grow up with any specific musicals?
