Sherlock BBC, Series 2

It’s official: Right now, I am extraordinarily jealous of anyone who lives in the UK.  Because you guys get to watch the second series of “Sherlock”, and over here in North America we have to wait six whole months.

I think it was here at After Hours, a year ago, that someone put me on to BBC’s contemporary remake of the classic Conan Doyle stories, and ever since then I have been devouring the measly 4h 30 minutes of Martin Freeman’s deadpan coolness and Benedict Cumberbatch’s brilliant Holmes.  I’ve also been gnashing my teeth at the third episode’s cliffhanger ending.

But finally, the series has landed in the UK, which means it’s only a matter of time before it pops up on the other side of the pond.  In the meantime, for all those who haven’t yet seen the trailers or the clips, here’s an excerpt I found on YouTube from the first instalment, “A Scandal in Belgravia”.  Enjoy!

If you need a quick fix of the actor who plays Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch), he has a small role in “War Horse.”

I cannot wait for this show to come to PBS. They are fun, thoughtful adaptions. I love how they illustrate Sherlock’s abilities to “read” a crime scene (as well as any situation he’s in).

Both MF & BC are in The Hobbit (BC playing the voice of a dragon, though). BC is also in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Oh, I can’t wait! This version is so much better than the new ‘Sherlock’ with Robert Downey Jr & Jude Law.

@LeeB – Yes, I only discovered that recently! War Horse is now going on my short list of movies to see, along with Tinker. (And oh god, BC is my new favourite actor.)

@nicole – I think it’s so cool that both MF (whom I think is the best Watson, ever) and BC are in the Hobbit. I’m interested to see how they handle the whole Irene Adler thing – apparently she’s an actual dominatrix? And “The Woman” is her professional handle.

@tracega – I agree. I haven’t seen the new one because the plot looks even more preposterous than the first one. I only watch the first one anyway because of the Downey-Law interaction.

@Bridge S – REALLY?!?! I can’t find listings for Canada, even though we get PBS. Thanks!
