Amazing art in Copenhagen

DSCN0788This past summer, my husband and I went, for the first time, to Copenhagen. The Danes were, to a person, lovely, full of smiles, and blessed with a witty sense of style and humor. (Is there something in the water in Denmark?)  On our last afternoon, we went to the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. This is an amazing museum built around the personal collection of Carl Jacobsen (1842–1914), the son of the founder of the Carlsberg Breweries.

Primarily a sculpture museum, the museum is known for its antique sculpture from the ancient cultures around the Mediterranean. We, however, were astonished by its collection of modern sculpture. One of the best parts of travel is exposure to ideas, people, culture, and art one has never before encountered. Our visit to the Glyptotek was one of those perfect traveler’s experiences. We saw art that we both loved and were intrigued by. Perhaps our favorite was the above statue, by Kai Nielsen (1882–1924), called “The Water Mother.” It was, from every angle, amazing.DSC03740

Each room was a marvel. There were extraordinary pieces from centuries past as well as more modern pieces that took our breath away. We loved this series of Adam and Eve before and after the Fall done by Danish artist by J.A. Jerichau. The latter looks to me as though it could be a Viagra ad!

DSCN0802Have you seen any art lately that blew you away? What’s the best museum you’ve ever been to?

I’ll have to keep this place in mind, Dabney. My daughter recently moved from London to Copenhagen and we plan to visit her next May. We missed the trip to see her in London because of personal commitments and a family wedding. But we’re determined to make this trip, come hell or high water! LOL

The most recent art that blew me away was in the chapel created by local artist Miquel Barcelo in the Palma Cathedral on Mallorca.

As for favorite museums, gosh, that’s hard. I grew up loving the French Impressionism works in the Art of Institute of Chicago. And I’ve been to lots and lots of museums in Europe so could go on and on for days about the amazing collections. But I won’t. ;) Definite faves have to be the Louvre in Paris and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

My blog addresses a lot of the same subjects as yours and I think we could greatly benefit from each other. If you might be interested feel free to send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you! Excellent blog by the way!

Hi there! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any problems with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of hard work due to no data backup. Do you have any solutions to stop hackers?
