Sweat-Proof Makeup

I am appealing to the broader knowledge of the AAR community on this recent challenge of mine.  As frequent readers may recall, I am moving shortly from the Northeast to the Gulf Coast, and am a bit concerned about how I will manage the climate differences.  Now, I’m used to humidity, but I’m sure Mobile is something on a different level.

I have troublesome skin, and I’m looking to try something new as a base makeup.  I am, regrettably, acne-prone, and I know makeup+sweat+humidity is not a good combination for clear skin, so I was hoping you might have a recommendation for a foundation/concealer that is:

  • non-comedogenic (i.e., not acne-causing)
  • oil-free (see above)
  • sweat-proof
  • modest in price (less than $20, preferably less than $15)

Can you think of suggestions? Right now I use Sephora Compact Foundation, but I’m almost out and have found that it tends to melt off my face rather easily, which is not the most pleasant of sensations.  Any other skin-care tips for the Deep South would be very much appreciated!

    Hi Jane,
I’ve been using Shiseido Sunblock Stick SPF 35 for at least 15 years:

I usually buy it at Macys, but most department stores carry it. I use the beige, which blends nicely with my fair skin, but it also comes in an untinted version.

It’s a bit more expensive than you mention (around $25), but a little really does go a long way. I usually buy 2 sticks at a time and that’s only every couple of years.

Very, very sweat-proof. Not sure about oil-free or non-comedogenic, but it hasn’t caused any breakouts for me in all the years I’ve been using it. It feels creamy going on, but once absorbed has a very nice matte finish. I get compliments on my skin all the time and I attribute most of that to the sunblock (and the rest to my parents and their good genes!)

THanks for the recommendation, JulieR! I actually looked at it on Sephora, but one reviewer said it gave her blackheads and made her break out, so it might need some further investigation. Other than that, it sounds perfect.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how well I like L’Oreal Mineral make-up. It goes on quickly and seems to stay on, at least for me…and the coverage is surprisingly good. (Although, following a suggestion from a friend, for a special event, I’ll start off with a traditional liquid foundation and concealer and then finish things off with the mineral make-up — talk about a glow!!)

  12. What you published was very logical. But, what about this? what if you added a little information? I mean, I don’t want to tell you how to run your website, however suppose you added a post title to possibly get people’s attention? I mean Motherboard ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme (Tugas Dasar Sistem Informasi #4) Brawijaya Corner is kinda plain. You might glance at Yahoo’s front page and watch how they create article headlines to get people to click. You might add a video or a picture or two to grab people excited about everything’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it might bring your website a little bit more interesting.
